Every file format OwlCAD opens and exports: STL, 3MF, OBJ, GLB, STEP, SVG, DXF, OpenSCAD and images, and what each is for. Free, in your browser.
OwlCAD opens STL, 3MF, OBJ, GLB and glTF, STEP and STP, SVG, DXF, OpenSCAD .scad and .csg files, and PNG, JPG or WebP images, plus the .zip downloads model sites hand out. It exports STL, 3MF, OBJ, GLB, STEP, SVG and DXF. All of it runs free in your browser, with units detected on import.
Whether OwlCAD opens it, whether it exports it, and the page that goes deeper.
Opens and exports. The universal 3D-printing mesh that every slicer and model site takes. It stores no units, so OwlCAD detects them on import.
Opens and exports. The modern print format: real units, colours and object names, opened by Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura and OrcaSlicer.
Opens and exports. A mesh you often get from 3D scanners, renderers and game tools: open one to measure, fix and print it, or export for other 3D software.
Opens GLB and glTF, exports GLB. The web and AR format, and what many AI 3D generators hand back. It opens in colour and the right way up.
Opens and exports (export is in beta). The format Fusion, SolidWorks and FreeCAD exchange: an assembly opens with its parts, names and colours, and parts built in OwlCAD export as true solids.
Opens and exports. A 2D drawing becomes a solid you can still resize and print as a sign or stencil; export a flat projection or slice for a laser cutter.
Opens and exports. Closed outlines become solids whose thickness you can still change; export a projection or slice as DXF R2000, or R12 for older laser, CNC and CAM software.
Opens. A script is interpreted into an editable model rather than baked into a mesh, so you can keep changing it.
Opens. Trace an image into outlines, turn it into a relief or a lithophane, or place it as a reference to model on.
Opens. Drop the .zip a model site gives you, from Printables or Thingiverse for example, and the models inside are imported.
Drop it on the build plate: units are detected on the way in, and there is nothing to install.
STL or 3MF. Every slicer reads STL; 3MF also keeps real units, colours and object names, and Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura and OrcaSlicer all open it. If you are not sure what the other end supports, send STL.
Yes: export STEP (beta). Parts you build in OwlCAD from shapes, sketches, booleans and fillets export as true solids other CAD tools can edit; an imported mesh exports as a faceted shell, because an STL or OBJ has no solid surfaces to recover.
Yes. Export a flat projection or a slice through your model as SVG, or as DXF in R2000 or R12 for older laser, CNC and CAM software. The DXF header declares millimetres, so it cuts at size.
Units are detected and converted to millimetres. An STL stores no units, so a bar on import lets you reinterpret it as millimetres, centimetres, inches or metres in one click. A 3MF keeps its colours and object names, a GLB its colours, and a STEP assembly its parts, names and colours.
