Describe a part and get a parametric CAD model back, with live dimensions and STL, 3MF or STEP export. See real AI-generated examples and open them free.
OwlCAD’s text-to-CAD generator turns a prompt into a parametric model: primitives, booleans and standards-sized generators, with every dimension still a live number. It runs through a real CAD kernel before you see it. Below are real results, not mock-ups, and every one opens in the editor without an account.
AI generation is part of OwlCAD Pro · Every example opens free, with no account
Generated by models Pro runs on your credits, and each graded 5 out of 5 by the same judge behind our published model scores. Open one, change a dimension, and watch the part rebuild.
“A planetary gear set: module 1.5, a 12-tooth sun gear with three planet gears running inside a ring gear, everything 6 mm thick.”
“A 2x3 Gridfinity bin, regular height, to hold small parts in a drawer baseplate.”
“A 70x50 mm base plate 3 mm thick with four 6 mm tall hex standoffs (M3 bore) at the corners, inset 5 mm from each edge.”
“A 608 skate bearing, 8 mm bore, that prints in one piece and spins.”
“A simple toy rocket: a cylindrical body with a cone nose on top and three fins around the base, about 80 mm tall.”
“A 40 mm axial fan rotor with seven blades, bored for a 3 mm motor shaft.”
“A duct transition 60 mm tall that goes from a 40 mm round opening at the bottom to a 40 mm square one at the top.”
“A turned bud vase 90 mm tall with a narrow neck that flares out again at the rim.”
Real outputs, not mock-ups. Parametric parts and edits ran through the same prompt, validator and CAD kernel Pro uses; sculpted meshes are unedited apart from a lighter triangle count for the web. Every example opens in the editor with no account.
A mesh generator hands back a surface. OwlCAD hands back the recipe, and checks it before it reaches you.
Name what it is, the sizes that matter and any standard it has to meet: a 608 bearing that prints in one piece, a 2×3 Gridfinity bin. A reference image works too.
Not triangles. Primitives, booleans, patterns and parametric generators for gears, bearings and Gridfinity, with real millimetre values: the same tree you would build by hand.
The tree is validated against the same vocabulary the editor uses, then evaluated to a solid by the Manifold kernel. A shape that computes to nothing is caught before you ever see it.
It lands as ordinary, undoable nodes. Change a dimension, fillet an edge or cut a hole, then export STL or 3MF for your slicer, or STEP for other CAD tools.
Modify with AI applies an instruction to the part already on your plate, as ordinary edits you can undo. Each example below passed every check its case defines.
“Drill four M4 clearance holes through this plate, one near each corner.”
“Add a separate housing for a 40 mm fan to sit inside, with a finger guard over the opening.”
Figurines, ornaments and organic forms come from the sculpted-mesh mode instead. These came from Tripo, reduced in triangle count for the web and otherwise untouched.
“A small owl figurine perched on a stack of three books, stylised, suitable for 3D printing”
“A chess knight piece shaped like a dragon head on a round base, suitable for 3D printing”
“A retro cartoon rocket ship desk ornament standing on three fins, suitable for 3D printing”
We run every model against the same parts benchmark and publish the results: fidelity out of 5, how often the output is a watertight solid, and what each generation costs.
Why an editable parametric model is a different thing from a finished triangle mesh, and when each is the right choice.
OwlCAD runs a hosted MCP server, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor can build a part on your account — authoring a real parametric tree, running it through the CAD kernel, rendering it to check its own work, and handing back a print-ready file plus a project you can open and edit. Part of Pro, and it spends no AI credits.
Open the editor free and try the examples. Add Pro when you want the AI to model for you.
Text to CAD is AI that turns a written description into a CAD model rather than a mesh. In OwlCAD the result is a parametric node tree: solids, booleans and generators with editable dimensions, which you keep modelling and export as STL, 3MF or STEP.
Pro runs Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash, Claude Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.6 Sol on your monthly credits. With your own provider key you can also run models such as Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro without spending credits. How each one scores on this task is published on the model comparison page.
Yes. Every example on this page is a real output, and each one opens in the full editor with no account, so you can orbit it, measure it and change its dimensions. Generating new parts with AI is what needs OwlCAD Pro.
No, and we would rather say so. On our own benchmark the strongest models average a little over 4 out of 5 for fidelity. A part with many small features at exact positions can still come back with a detail in the wrong place, which is why the result lands as editable nodes you can fix rather than a mesh you would have to redo.
Yes. Parametric results are built from analytic solids, so they export as B-rep STEP for other CAD tools, as well as STL and 3MF for your slicer. A sculpted mesh exports as a faceted STEP solid instead.
Yes. Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or any MCP client can drive OwlCAD’s hosted MCP server to build, check and export the same kind of parametric model, without spending AI credits. MCP access is part of Pro.
