Terms of Service

The terms for using OwlCAD: the free editor and paid AI credits, acceptable use, and your ownership of what you design, with commercial use included.

Last updated October 4, 2026. These terms govern your use of OwlCAD, operated by Spare Matter Corp (Ontario, Canada). By using the service you agree to them. The OwlCAD editor is free to use; the AI features are paid, through an optional Pro subscription and the other purchases described under "Paid plans, credits, and donations" below. The service is in active development.

Eligibility and age

You may browse and model without an account. To create a general (non-classroom) account you must be at least 13 years old, or the age of digital consent in your country if that is higher.

If you are below that age, you may use OwlCAD only with the involvement and consent of a parent, guardian, or your school, who must agree to these terms on your behalf. A school or district that adopts OwlCAD for classroom use may accept these terms and consent on behalf of its students for educational use, as described under "School and educational use" below.

Classroom accounts are different from general accounts. In a class, a student account is created and controlled by the school or teacher and is intended only for educational use within that class. Students join with a class code from their teacher and choose a display name; they do not provide an email address, set a password, or supply a date of birth.

Using OwlCAD

You may use OwlCAD to create, import, and export 3D models for lawful purposes. You are responsible for the content you create and for the models you upload or import.

You may start modeling without an account. Creating an account lets you save projects to the cloud and share your work. The AI features run on credits — from a Pro subscription, credits left over from one, or a school license (see "Paid plans, credits, and donations") — except in classrooms, where AI is teacher-only: students do not use AI generation, and a teacher generates content and shares it with the class (see "School and educational use").

Paid plans, credits, and donations

The OwlCAD editor — modeling, import, and export — is free to use. The AI features run on credits. You can use them with a Pro subscription, with purchased credits you still hold after a Pro subscription ends, with credits we have granted you, or, as a teacher, from your school's license. A Pro subscription includes an allotment each month, and a request costs a number of credits that depends on the model you choose. Some AI features — the "Ask OwlCAD" help assistant among them — are included with Pro at no credit cost. Current pricing and what is included are shown on our Pricing page. Billing is handled by our payment processor, Stripe; we do not receive or store your full payment-card details.

A Pro subscription bills in advance and renews automatically each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in your account settings: cancellation stops future charges, and your Pro access continues until the end of the current paid period. Deleting your account also cancels any active subscription — including a recurring donation — and stops future charges.

Additional credits: Pro subscribers may buy credit packs as a one-time purchase. Purchased credits are added to your balance, do not expire while your account is open, and are not transferable, exchangeable, or redeemable for cash. Monthly allotment credits are used first and do not carry over between periods. Credits have no cash value; if a generation fails through our fault, the credits it consumed are returned to the buckets they came from — monthly-allotment credits only while that month lasts, since they do not carry over.

Donations: you may make a one-time or recurring monthly donation to support the project, with or without an account. A donation buys nothing — it grants no plan, no credits, and no other benefit — and is not a charitable contribution for tax purposes. A recurring donation continues until you cancel it through the billing portal or by contacting us.

We may change pricing, credit prices, or the included allotment on a going-forward basis, with notice of material changes before they take effect. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

Education: classrooms, rostering, and assignments are free. The AI features remain the only paid ones — funded by a teacher's Pro subscription or by a school or district license (a pooled credit budget that an administrator can top up; we arrange invoicing for a license directly with the school). There is no per-student charge; students are always free.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use OwlCAD to create, upload, generate, share, or comment with content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise harmful — particularly given that OwlCAD may be used by children in schools. You agree not to misuse the AI features to attempt to produce such content.

You also agree not to work around the limits that keep the service available to everyone: do not attempt to bypass credit charges, quotas, rate limits, or our bot checks; do not scrape the service or access it by automated means except through the interfaces we provide for that purpose (see "Agents and programmatic access"); and do not probe, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or to another user's account or content.

We may remove content, disable share links, unpublish a gallery model, revoke access tokens, and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that are reported and found to be harmful. You can report content using the in-product report control.

Your content

You retain ownership of the models you create. You grant us the limited rights needed to host, store, process, and display your content in order to operate the service for you (for example, to save your projects and to show a project to people you share it with).

Commercial use is included on every plan, the free tier included. You may sell prints of the models you design in OwlCAD, sell or license the model files themselves, and use them in a commercial product or service. We take no ownership stake in your designs, claim no royalty, and require no attribution. This covers what you design here; it does not grant you rights in third-party content you import, or in anything you are not otherwise entitled to use.

By publishing a share link, you make that specific project accessible to anyone who has the link. Adding a collaborator, a team, or a folder member gives those people continuing access to what you shared until you remove it. You are responsible for keeping your own backups of important work — export your models regularly.

Publishing to the public gallery

Publishing a model to our public gallery, or contributing a part to our community parts catalogue, is a separate and deliberate step — it is not a consequence of creating a share link. Submissions go to a moderated queue, and we may decline, edit the listing details of, or later remove any submission at our discretion; we will tell you the outcome.

You keep ownership of anything you publish. By publishing, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that model, its thumbnail and preview renders, and the name and description you gave it, for the purpose of operating and promoting the gallery — and you grant every other user of the service the right to view it, download it, and remix it: to make their own copy in their own account and modify it for their own use, including commercially. That is what the gallery is for, so publish only work you are entitled to license on those terms.

Unpublishing removes a model from the gallery going forward. It does not reach back: copies other people have already downloaded or remixed remain theirs, and we cannot recall them. Consider that before you publish.

If you believe something in the gallery infringes your rights, tell us — see "Copyright complaints" below for what a notice needs and where to send it.

Copyright complaints

If you believe material on OwlCAD infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent: Copyright Agent, Spare Matter Corp, 75 Bayly St W, Ste 15 #844, Ajax, ON L1S 7K7, Canada, privacy@owlcad.com — or use our Contact page and choose "Copyright complaint".

Your notice must include: your name, address, and contact details; identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed; the URL or other information reasonably sufficient for us to find the material in question; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf; and your physical or electronic signature.

When we receive a valid notice we remove or disable access to the material and notify the person who posted it, who may send us a counter-notice containing the equivalent information. We may restore the material as permitted by law. Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, carries legal liability.

We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

Agents and programmatic access

Pro subscribers can let an AI agent or a script work on their projects through our hosted MCP server at mcp.owlcad.com, in one of two ways: by connecting an AI assistant, such as ChatGPT or Claude, which asks you to sign in to OwlCAD and approve the permissions it requests; or by minting a personal access token in your account settings and giving it to that tool.

A token or a connected assistant acts as you. Within the permissions you approved (and, for a token, the expiry you chose), whatever holds it can read your projects and — with write permission — create, change, export, and share them, and spend credits from your balance. You are responsible for everything done with a token you issued or an assistant you connected, and for the conduct of those tools: these terms apply to their activity exactly as they apply to yours. Keep tokens secret, grant the narrowest permission that does the job, and revoke a token or disconnect an assistant in your account settings as soon as it is no longer needed or you believe it may have been exposed. Tell us promptly if you think a token or a connection has been compromised.

A connected assistant is provided by a third party. Connecting one puts you in a direct relationship with its provider: their terms and privacy policy govern what it does with the results it reads from your account, and we are not responsible for that provider's handling of them.

Programmatic access is subject to daily call limits for each token and each connected assistant, and to the same acceptable-use rules as the rest of the service. We may change, rate-limit, suspend, or withdraw these interfaces, and revoke a token or a connection, to protect the service. Agent access is not available to student accounts.

Connecting your own AI provider key

Instead of spending credits, you may connect your own API key from a supported AI provider, in which case the AI features run against your account with that provider. Doing so puts you in a direct relationship with them: their terms and privacy policy govern that request, you are responsible for their charges and for complying with their terms and any usage limits, and how they handle your prompt — including whether they may train on it — is a matter of the plan you hold with them, not of our arrangements. Some providers we make available this way permit training on submitted content; we say so before you add a key.

You confirm you are entitled to use the key you connect. We store it encrypted and use it only to make the requests you ask for, and you can remove it at any time. We do not guarantee any provider's availability, output, or pricing, and we are not responsible for a provider suspending your account, changing its terms, or billing you.

AI-generated content

AI generation produces models from your prompt on a best-effort basis. Output may be inaccurate, unexpected, or unsuitable for a given purpose, and is provided without warranty. You are responsible for reviewing generated models before relying on, printing, or sharing them, and for ensuring your use is lawful. In classrooms, only a teacher can generate content; students do not invoke AI generation.

The same applies to our other AI features. Answers from the "Ask OwlCAD" help assistant are generated, may be wrong or out of date, and are not a substitute for the documentation or for professional advice; suggestions from the Customizer AI are proposals you should check before relying on them. Nothing produced by an AI feature is engineering advice, and OwlCAD does not verify that any model — generated or drawn — is fit, safe, or compliant for a real-world use. Judging that is yours.

Which AI models are available, and what each costs in credits, changes as we add and retire them. We may add, change, or withdraw a model at any time, including one you have been using.

School and educational use

OwlCAD offers a free classroom experience for K-12 students, including students under 13, built to be safe by default. A teacher creates a class and students join with a class code from their teacher, choosing only a display name. Student accounts are pseudonymous and managed by the school: no student email, real name, or date of birth is collected.

Consent is at the school or district level. Persistent classroom use, especially by students under 13, requires a school or district administrator to accept these terms on the school's behalf, rather than an individual teacher's checkbox. The school is responsible for providing any notices to, and obtaining any consents from, parents that applicable law requires, and may do so on parents' behalf for data used solely for the educational purpose.

How student data is protected: AI generation is teacher-only, so no student content is ever sent to an AI provider; product analytics are off for student sessions; and student work is private to the class — it is never made public, published to a share link, or shown in our public gallery. The school controls its students' data: an administrator can review and export it in the app and can ask us to delete it at any time, which we do promptly; deleting a class permanently removes its student accounts and their projects. We handle student data as a service provider to the school, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Pricing: classrooms, rostering, and assignments are free. AI generation is funded by a teacher's Pro subscription or a school or district license; there is no per-student charge.

Availability

OwlCAD is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. The service is under active development; features may change and occasional interruptions can occur.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OwlCAD is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data or models arising from use of the service.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product evolves. If a change is material, we will tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect, and update the version date above. Otherwise the updated terms apply from the date shown above, and continuing to use the service after that date means you accept them.
