Features

Everything OwlCAD does: parametric solids and booleans, sketch-to-extrude, fillets, assemblies, AI generation, print checks, and STL, 3MF, STEP and DXF export.

A browser-based modeler built for people who actually print what they design.

Everything in OwlCAD

Parametric solid modeling

  • Box, cylinder, sphere, cone, torus, tube, pyramid, wedge, rounded box/cylinder and 3D text, plus gears, threads and fasteners
  • Boolean union, subtract, and intersect on real solids
  • Edits rebuild the model: change a dimension, not a mesh
  • Manifold geometry engine runs in a Web Worker, off the UI thread

Sketch, extrude, sweep & loft

  • Draw 2D profiles on the build plate, with curved arc segments
  • Extrude straight up, revolve 360°, or twist a profile into a helix
  • Sweep a profile along a path or loft between profiles
  • Sketches stay editable, so you can reopen and reshape any time

Edge & shell tools

  • Fillet or chamfer edges — convex, concave, or both
  • Hollow any solid into a printable shell with a set wall thickness
  • Add drainage holes through the bottom for resin and paint
  • Modifiers stay non-destructive and fully undoable

Precise manipulation

  • Move, rotate, and scale gizmos with grid and angle snapping
  • Type exact position and size values when you need to work to spec
  • Datum planes, axes and points: set one on a face and it follows that face through every edit
  • Align, plus linear, circular, grid & mirror patterns
  • Measure the model itself: edge length, hole radius and diameter, true arc length, face area, angle, and the smallest gap between two parts
  • Reusable components, live dimensions, and full undo / redo

Assemblies & mates

  • Mate parts together with coincident, coaxial and joint relationships
  • Articulate a joint and scrub its motion within travel limits
  • A bill of materials that counts every part, with volume, filament weight and cost, exportable as CSV
  • An exploded view that pulls each part out along its own mate axis, so it reads as instructions
  • Confirm parts move and fit before you commit to a print
  • Mates solve at the display layer, so your authored positions stay intact

AI generation & editing (Pro)

  • Generate an editable parametric model from a text description
  • Or sculpt a mesh from text or an image, then refine it with real tools
  • Choose your AI model: parametric or sculpted mesh
  • Modify with AI: select a part and describe the change in plain language
  • No black-box output, so everything you get back stays editable
  • Part of OwlCAD Pro: a monthly allotment of AI credits, plus top-up packs
  • Or bring your own provider key, and generation runs on your account free of credits
  • Or connect an AI agent over MCP, which builds real, editable CAD and spends no credits

No-code model customizer

  • Expose a model’s parameters: dimensions, counts, text, toggles
  • Share it so anyone can adjust the values and download their own version
  • Runs in the browser, with instant preview, no install and no upload wait
  • Embed a live customizer widget in your own page
  • AI can suggest which parameters to expose and take plain-language changes (Pro)

Reference images & 2D views

  • Drop in a reference image and model right on top of it
  • Move, rotate, and scale-calibrate the reference to real dimensions
  • Switch to a true orthographic 2D view locked to any plane
  • Sketch and trace on any face or workplane, not just the build plate
  • Export a 2D projection or slice as SVG or DXF for a laser cutter or CNC router

Mechanisms & maker toolkit

  • Meshing gear trains — spur, herringbone, bevel, and worm drives
  • Functional joints: pin hinges, ball-and-socket, snap-fits, and living hinges
  • Parametric threads, enclosures, board mounts, and other print-ready generators
  • Text signs, nameplates, and keychains from a word — plate or cut-out-letter style
  • Turn a photo into a printable relief, or a lithophane that lights up on a window
  • One clearance vocabulary across the snap-fit, hinge, ball-joint, adapter and split joints: Tight, Normal or Loose, or type your own number
  • Bind parameters together so a mechanism stays consistent as you tune it

Print-aware tooling

  • True millimeter units throughout, with mm / inch display
  • Printer profiles for Ender 3, Prusa and Bambu Lab, or a custom volume
  • Auto-orient, lay flat to a face, and scale to fit the build plate
  • Watertight (manifold) check with volume and triangle count, plus mesh repair
  • See what a print will weigh and cost before you slice: pick a filament, or enter your own spool’s density and price
  • Too big for the bed? Cut a part across X, Y or Z into halves that key back together with pins, keys, or a bolted joint you can take apart again
  • Print the fit test coupon once to find your own printer’s real clearance, then use that number everywhere

Import, export & sharing

  • Import and export STL, 3MF, OBJ, GLB, solid STEP, SVG and DXF, with units detected on import
  • A 3MF keeps its colours, object names, and part types on the way in
  • Open an OpenSCAD .scad or .csg — it is interpreted into an editable tree, not baked to a mesh
  • DXF opens as editable extrudes, and writes back as R12 or R2000 for older CAM
  • An editable parametric history timeline you can scrub and retro-edit
  • Local autosave plus cloud projects with rollback version history
  • Publish a public share link or embed a model in any page; collect comments
