Reference images

Model on top of a photo, sketch, or blueprint.

A reference image is a picture — a photo, hand sketch, or dimensioned drawing — placed on a plane in the scene to model against. Scale it to real size (directly, or by calibrating a known length), position and fade it with opacity, then trace it in 2D with the Sketch tool. It is an aid only: it never exports and is not part of the model.

  1. Open the Reference panel and add an image (or drag one onto the viewport).
  2. Set its real-world width, or use Set scale to calibrate it against a known dimension.
  3. Adjust opacity, position, and rotation so it sits under your model; lock it to avoid nudging.
  4. Switch to 2D view on its plane and trace it with the Sketch tool.
