Every week of OwlCAD in August 2026: the features that shipped and the fixes that matter when you print.
What changed in August 2026
Newest week first. A week belongs to the month its Monday falls in.
Week of August 31, 2026
New
OpenSCAD Customizer scripts import as parametric models, and a .scad file can run live as a node whose source you can edit without losing the values you tuned.
Variables and expressions can drive generator parameters.
A command palette: press / or Ctrl/⌘K to search every tool, and the editor points at it.
Starter templates are translated, grouped into shelves and searchable, and three are built on real generators.
Cloud sync can be switched off, and you can upload a local document.
You can correct an email address you mistyped at sign-up.
A printer calibration block generator.
Japanese and Korean fonts for 3D text.
Reset a generator to its defaults, and read a field’s help without hovering.
A simpler site: a four-link header, a shorter homepage and a three-column footer.
Fixed
Auto-orient recovers a part that is already rotated.
Push/pull leaves the neighbouring body alone mid-resize.
A greyed-out generator field can no longer be edited.
A broken expression binding says why it failed instead of showing a false equation.
A non-watertight model in the gallery opens as a viewable model rather than an empty one.
The name-tag template gets the ring hole it promised.

New
New generators: a cookie cutter from any model’s outline, a silicone or resin mold that checks the casting comes out, a screw clamp, an axial fan, a blower wheel, a fan frame, a toothed belt, and a bearing that comes off the plate turning.
Gears round their tooth roots and warn when a pair will bind; light-bulb (Edison) threads and a bayonet closure for threaded jars.
Ask OwlCAD: ask a how-do-I question in your own words and get pointed at the right tool, in the editor and on the help centre.
Print a multi-colour model without an AMS: export one file per colour, each named for its filament. 3MF files carry their real colours in and named parts out.
Importing an SVG or DXF asks how deep to make it, and whether it is one object or many.
Modify with AI can ask you a question instead of guessing, and that turn is free.
Search the Generate panel by name or family, and shift-click a range in the scene tree.
Walkthrough clips for every generator, and three new fonts for 3D text.
Fixed
Spheres, bores and hex shapes now preview exactly as they export: some previewed coarser, or rotated 30°.
Printed gear pairs and snap-fits no longer weld together, and the default nut runs free on its bolt.
An AI edit that changes nothing no longer costs a credit.
Print check no longer flags a chamfer as a thin wall, or gives an all-clear on poor coverage.
The update prompt asks once per update and honours Later.
Help articles render their formatting, and Back returns to where you came from.

New
Split for printing: cut a part too big for your bed into halves that key back together, with dowels or shaped, tapered keys. Drag the cut plane in the viewport first, or press C.
Drag a node in the scene tree into or out of a boolean, reorder it among its siblings, and move a selected operand with the gizmo.
Hollow now works on dense, curvy imported meshes it used to refuse.
Insert a generator with one click and tune it in the Properties panel.
Gridfinity bins get compartment dividers, a lid and a label tab.
New joints: a ball-socket chain and a captured hinge pin, plus a clearance test coupon to find the fit your printer needs.
Five more typefaces for 3D text, and signs can colour their letters apart from the backing.
Swap which body a mate holds fixed.
A lithophane customizer page, and new parts are named in the language you work in.
Sharing a link no longer publishes to the gallery: publishing is its own step. Pricing now states commercial use is allowed on every plan, Free included.
Fixed
Subtract keeps the part you chose to keep, and can be flipped in place.
3MF export writes each part as its own object.
Hollow drain holes land in the material, and opening a face no longer leaves a thin membrane.
Round no longer leaves a phantom body, and its result has about a third fewer triangles.
Imported meshes shade with crisp creases instead of smeared edges.
A browser that blocks site data no longer shows a blank page.

New
Datums: work planes, axes and points you create by picking a face, an edge or a vertex. They follow the shape they were made from, and you can sketch on a work plane.
The measure tool picks the model’s own edges, faces and holes, and reads radius, arc length, area and gap.
Print check estimates filament length, weight and cost before you slice, for the filament and price you enter.
An Assembly panel with a bill of materials you can download as CSV, and an exploded view that reads like instructions.
DXF import and export, for laser cutters, CNC and 2D drawings.
Text sign and image relief generators, with outlined letters.
New viewer pages for OBJ and GLB files, and more format landing pages.
Guests see “Saved to this browser” after saving, and a clear way to keep their work with an account.
The gallery has a category for functional prints, and community models are reviewed before they go public.
AI agents can make targeted edits to a project, measure and check parts for interference, export DXF and SVG, and share projects.
Fixed
Outlined text letters are no longer punched through with slivers.
A guest’s first save no longer fails.
GLB models with embedded textures now show their textures.
A shared gallery link previews the model, not the site’s generic card.
A part of the app that fails to download retries instead of giving up.
Gallery comments no longer hang on “Loading…”.

New
When a mesh isn’t watertight, the import toast and Print check now offer a repair, and a rebuild-as-solid option for meshes the repair can’t fix.
A multi-object 3MF, including the multi-part files slicers save, imports as separate, named objects.
Drop an STL or 3MF on the STL and 3MF editor pages and it opens straight in the editor.
When an operation is refused as too slow, the message says how long it would take, and imported meshes get the option to build it anyway.
Step-by-step lessons in the help centre: a phone stand, a lidded box, a wall hook, a cookie cutter, a drawer insert, a board enclosure, a screw-top jar and a hose adapter.
Import and save now tell you the size limit for your account, and what lifts it.
Fixed
On touch screens, a pinch-zoom no longer opens the context menu or selects and moves objects.
Mesh repair no longer reports models whose parts touch as broken, or breaks them.
Signing in is more reliable: the header Log in link keeps working after you dismiss it, and a blocked sign-in popup is handled.
A model too big to save to the cloud now says so, instead of retrying in silence.
The import toast no longer covers the bottom toolbar.
A Pro subscriber who runs out of AI credits is offered a top-up, not an upgrade to the plan they already have.
