Build a phone stand — video walkthrough

A sloped stand with a lip and a charging notch — fuse, hollow, and cut in one project.

A phone stand is the first project that needs more than one operation: you fuse two shapes, shell the result, and then cut into it — in that order, because hollowing works on a single solid and cutting after shelling is what leaves an open notch rather than a lined one. Two numbers do the real work. The wedge is **45 wide and 75 tall**, not the other way round: width is how far the slope runs and height is how far it rises, so the tall, short wedge is the steep one. The instinctive "long, low wedge" lays the phone almost flat. And the lip is **24 mm** because it has to out-top the ramp it sits on — the slope is still around 14 mm high where the lip meets it, so a shorter lip would leave barely any ledge. Hollowing is not just about material, though it does cut this from over 100 g of filament to a fraction of that. Opening the bottom matters as much: a sealed shell traps air and support material with no way out.   1. Add a Wedge and set Width 45, Depth 80, Height 75 — width is the slope’s run and height its rise, so a tall, short wedge gives the ~60° a phone wants.
  2. Add a Box about 10 × 80 × 24 and move it to the thin end for a lip the phone rests against.
  3. Select both and Union them, so there is a single solid to shell.
  4. Hollow the body to a 3 mm wall and switch on the Bottom open side, so it prints as a shell instead of a solid brick.
  5. Add one more Box across the lip and Subtract it to leave a charging-cable notch.
  6. Run the print check to see whether the slope needs supports, then export an STL or 3MF.
