A baseplate and two bins, built by a generator instead of by hand.

This is the first project where you do not model anything. Gridfinity is a modular storage standard built on a **42 mm grid**, with bins stacking on a **7 mm height grid**, and the Gridfinity generator knows all of it: the foot profile, the socket clearances, the stacking lip. You choose how many cells and how tall, and it produces an editable node tree. That is the point of a generator, and the reason to reach for one here. The numbers a published standard fixes are not yours to get wrong — get the foot profile out by a fraction and your bin will not seat in anyone else's baseplate, including your own next print. **Sizing it to a real drawer** is the only measuring you do: divide the drawer's width and depth by 42 and round down. Four by three units is 168 × 126 mm, which is worth checking against your printer before you commit — if it does not fit, drop a unit and print two smaller plates, because they tile on the grid anyway. One wrinkle worth knowing: the generator dialog **remembers where you left it**. Re-open it after making a baseplate and it is still set to Baseplate, with the height field greyed out until you switch back to Bin.   1. Open the Generate panel and choose Gridfinity; set Type to Baseplate at 4 × 3 units.
  2. Open it again, switch Type back to Bin, and make a 1 × 1 bin three height units tall with a label tab.
  3. Move the bin clear of the baseplate so both parts print side by side.
  4. Generate a second bin, 2 × 1, for a longer tray.
  5. Run the print check — the baseplate is the part that may not fit your printer — then export.
