Build a cookie cutter
Draw your own outline, extrude it, and open both ends — a shape that is yours, not ours.
Every other project starts from a shape in the palette. This one starts from a drawing, which is how you make anything that is not a box, a cylinder, or a combination of them. **Look straight down before you sketch.** You draw on a plane, and in the default tilted view you are seeing that plane at an angle — so a star that looks regular on screen comes out visibly lopsided in the model. Switching to the 2D view first is the whole difference between a symmetrical cutter and a squashed one. **Draw it bigger than feels necessary.** The inner points of a small star land close together, and small features do not survive a 1.2 mm wall — nor a real nozzle. The last move is the one worth remembering: Hollow with **two** opposite faces open. One open face gives you a tray; opening the top *and* the bottom turns the shell into a band, and a band that follows your outline is precisely a cookie cutter. It also prints beautifully — standing up as modelled, every wall is vertical, so there is not a single overhang. Change the outline and you have a different cutter. - Switch to the 2D view and look straight down before you draw.
- Sketch an Extrude profile: click around your outline, click the first point again to close it, and press Enter.
- Set the Height to about 18 mm — deep enough to cut dough, shallow enough that it releases.
- Hollow it to a 1.2 mm wall, then switch on **both** Top and Bottom under open sides.
- Run the print check and export — it prints standing up with no overhangs at all.
