DXF

Outline or cross-section for CAD, CNC and laser.

DXF exports a 2D outline or cross-section, like SVG, but as the interchange format CAD and CNC software expects. Two versions are offered: DXF 2000 is the modern default, while DXF R12 is the safest choice for older laser and CNC controllers. Either way the file records that it is in millimetres, so it opens at the right scale rather than leaving the other program to guess.

  1. File → Export → DXF.
  2. Choose outline or cross-section.
  3. Pick DXF 2000, or DXF R12 for an older machine.
