Turn off cloud sync

Keep new work on the device you make it on, instead of saving it to your account.

By default OwlCAD saves your projects to your account, which is what lets you open them on another device, share a link, and roll back through version history. Turning cloud sync off stops that for new work: no copy is sent to your account, no project is created, and the document lives in this browser’s storage until you download it or upload it yourself. The trade is the whole point, so it is worth being plain about it — a document that is not in your account will not appear in your projects list, cannot be shared or published, has no version history, and is not recoverable by us if the browser’s data is cleared. That is why the header says “Saved on this device” rather than simply “Saved”, and why creating a new project warns you first when the one you have open would be replaced. The setting governs new work only: projects that were already syncing when you switched it off carry on doing so unless you say otherwise, which is what the question about the open project is for. Managed school accounts do not get the switch, because handing work in relies on it.

  1. Open the File menu and switch off “Sync to cloud” — or use the Cloud sync card on your Account page, which does the same thing for every device you sign in on.
  2. Switch it off in the editor with a project open and you are asked what to do with that one: keep syncing it, stop syncing but leave the copy in your account, or stop syncing and remove that copy. The Account page changes the setting only.
  3. From then on the project pill reads “Saved on this device”, and new work is not uploaded.
  4. Use File → Download a copy to keep a backup — with sync off, what is on the device is the only copy.
  5. Press File → “Upload to cloud” to send the open document to your account without turning the setting back on, or switch “Sync to cloud” back on to return to the normal behaviour.
